Alfred Gwynne Morang is a well-listed American
painter born in Ellsworth, Maine in 1901.
He began his artistic studies at
the age of sixteen with artists who summered near his home, and later
studied at the Fremond University where he earned an MFA. He moved to
Portland, Maine with his wife where they painted and gave music lessons but
after receiving a diagnosis of tuberculosis in 1938, they moved to Santa Fe,
New Mexico, where he worked as an artist for the WPA, taught at the Arsuna
School of Fine Arts, and founded his own school.
He had his own radio program in
Santa Fe called "The World of Art" and wrote a book entitled
Transcendental Painting. He died in 1958.
