Born in 1922, William Wolff was a native San Francisco
painter, graphic artist, and teacher, known for his modernist portraits.
He studied his trade throughout his lifetime, starting
out as a student at the California School of Fine Arts in 1939, the
University of California at Berkeley, and workshops with Max Beckmann,
Gordon Cook, and Richard Graff.
He exhibited at the Lucien Labaudt Gallery, City Lights
Books, John Bolles Gallery, Marquoit Gallery, and several others. A
retrospective of his work was shown at the Hearst Art Gallery in 2002. He
died in San Francisco, California in 2004.
