William Thon is a well-listed artist
who was active during his career in Maine, New York, and
Italy. He was best known for his highly abstract landscapes.
Born in 1906, he was trained at the American Academy in
Rome, and at the Art Students League in New York. He
received many awards for his works and exhibited at the Art
Institute of Chicago, the Brooklyn Museum of Art, MOMA, the
Whitney Museum, and many other venues. He was especially
known for his miniatures. He died in 2000.
