William Andrew Loomis is a listed illustrator, teacher, and author born in 1892 in Syracuse, New York, and raised in Zanesville, Ohio.

In 1911 he studied at the Arts Student's League in New York with Frank Vincent Dumond and George Bridgman, and later trained at the Art Institute of Chicago, Illinois. He set his sights on an art career after visiting Chandler Christy's studio.

He wrote "how-to-do" books on drawing and painting, and also taught at the American Academy of Art in Chicago. He died in 1959.
