Born in 1928, Samuel "Sam" Maitin is a celebrated Philadelphia, Pennsylvania painter, illustrator, printmaker, sculptor, and teacher.

He earned a BFA from Penn State and taught at the Annenberg School for Communication. His work was exhibited in the Library of Congress, the National Gallery, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, New York, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Tate Gallery in London, England.

He designed cover art for many editions of the Pennsylvania Gazette and was once asked to redesign Time magazine.

He died in 2004.
