Robert Philipp is a
well-listed painter and a member of the National Academy of Design.
Born in New York City, New
York in 1895, he was a child prodigy and began attending the Art Students
League at the age of fifteen, studying with George Bridgeman and Frank
Dumond. After a stint in Paris, France, he returned to New York City and
became well-known for his portrait and figure studies, and began teaching at
the Art Students League.
His paintings are in many
museums including the Whitney, the Metropolitan, the High Museum and the
Dallas Museum. His paintings have sold at auction for as much as
