Richard Michael Gorman Powers was a listed painter and illustrator known for his cover designs, children's and poetry books for Dell Publishing.

Born in Chicago in 1921, he studied at Loyola University, the Chicago Art Institute, and later studied with Julian Levi at the New School for Social Research. He had nearly thirty one-man shows at the Rehn Gallery in New York, and also exhibited at the Corcoran Gallery, the National Academy of Design, and the Whitney Museum. His paintings have sold at auction for as much as $31,000.00. He died in 1996.
