R. Freeman Worthley is a listed painter and printmaker, born in Chicago, Illinois in 1904, but raised on a farm in San Diego, California.

After service in the United States Navy during World War II, he received his Master of Fine Arts from Otis Institute where he learned etching, engraving, screen printing and painting. He took an interest in Abstract Expressionism.

R. Freeman Worthley's works can be found in the collections of the Library of Congress, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and the Saint Louis Museum of Art. He died in 1978.
