Born in 1901, Michail Vladomirovich Matorin is a listed Russian painter, printmaker, and teacher who was educated at the Moscow Art & Government Industrial School between 1914 until 1920.

At a competition in 1920 he won first prize for a poster and thereafter had a long career in creating woodcuts and linocuts. He taught at the Moscow Industrial School and at the Central School for the printing industry. in 1935 he became Associate Professor and then full Professor of engraving from 1950 up until the time of his death in 1976.
