Well-listed painter Margaret Stark was born in 1915 in Indianapolis, Indiana, and studied with well known Hoosier Group painter Otto Stark.

She graduated from Indiana University and Oberlin College. She later moved to New York City, New York where she studied at the Arts Students League and won a scholarship to work in the studio of Hans Hoffman.

She taught at Columbia University and the Museum of Modern Art. Her works were exhibited at the Carnegie Institute, the Whitney Museum, and the Museum of Modern Art. She died in 1988.
