Luis Sahagun Cortes is a listed Mexican
painter, illustrator, and teacher. Born in 1900 in the city
of Sahuayo, Michoacan, Mexico, he studied in Guadalajara and
had a defined style by the age of twenty-six.
He was an official painter of the
Presidency of the Republic, and a cultural ambassador to
other countries. He worked to establish and promote cultural
institutions in his home state of Michoacan, and eventually
became the Director of the College of San Carlos in Mexico
City. His works have sold internationally in Europe, the
United States and South America. He died in 1978.
