Lawrence Murphy is a listed
California painter and illustrator, born in 1872 in Denver, Colorado to
wealthy parents who disowned him when he chose a career in art.
He studied at the Academie Julian in
Paris, France, and in New York with George Bridgman and Frank DuMond. He
came to California in 1915and settled in Los Angeles where he taught at the
Art Student's League, UCLA, and the Chouinard Art School. He exhibited with
the California Art Club, the LA County Museum, the Laguna Beach Art
Association, and the DeYoung Museum. He died in 1947.
