Well-listed painter, cartoonist, illustrator and ceramic artist Karl Hubenthal was born in Breemer, Nebraska in 1917.

He studied at the Chouinard Art Institute and CalArts. As an editorial cartoonist for the Los Angeles Examiner, and later for the Herald-Examiner, he was nominated seven times for the Pulitzer Prize. He was a member of the National Cartoonist Society and a founding member of the American Association of Editorial Cartoonists. He died in Laguna Hills, California in 1998.
