Born in 1888, Julius Bloch was an influential Jewish
artist from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with a reputation as a Social
He came to the United States at the age of five with
his parents and was encouraged by his mother to pursue artistic interests.
He studied at the University of the Arts College of Art and Design with
Thomas Eakins and Thomas Anshutz. He was active as a WPA artist and his
works are in many museum collections. He died in 1966.
