John (Jack) Otterson was well known for his work as the Supervising Art Director at Universal Studios, and was nominated for eight Academy Awards.

Born in 1905 in Pennsylvania, he earned his BFA at Yale and was an associate artist on a mural installed in the Empire State Building in New York City, New York. He exhibited both nationally and internationally. One of his iconic paintings was an ongoing focal point in the television hit "Frasier" for the duration of the series.

He died in 1991.
