Born in Sweden in 1893, John Dominique is a well-listed Czlifornia painter known for his landscapes of the western terrain, who came to the United States with his family in 1898 and settled in Oregon, where he began his career as a typesetter and cartoonist for a small newspaper.

His first art classes were at the Portland Art Museum, which he followed with further studies at the San Francisco Institute Of Art, the Van Sloun School of Painting, and the Santa Barbara School of Arts, where he studied under Colin Campbell Cooper and Carl Oscar Borg. His works are in many museum collections, and he won many prizes for his works in exhibitions in California and Oregon. His works have sold at auction for as much as $5,880.00.

He died in 1994.
