Jean Charlot is an internationally known painter, illustrator, muralist, and printmaker.

Born in 1898 in Paris, France, he received some of his earliest training at the Lycee Condorcet and the Ecole de Beaux Arts. Having Aztec ancestors, he moved to Mexico after World War I in 1922, where he quickly established himself in the artistic community and befriended Diego Rivera, David Alfaro Siquieros, and Josť Orozco.

In 1930 he moved to Los Angeles, California where he produced color lithography and taught part time at the Arts Students League in New York City, New York. In 1949 he settled in Honolulu, Hawaii for twenty years. He died in 1979.
