James Colt's Impressionistic work is easily recognizable. A listed
Western artist, he is known for his scene paintings with cowboys and horses.
He studied at both the Otis and the Chouinard Institutes.
Born in 1922 as James Lee Cutter in Kansas City,
Missouri, he changed his last name to Colt in 1977. He was a member of the
Society of Illustrators, the Pastel Society of America, and the American
Artist's Professional League. He exhibited in well-known venues, and died in
Palm Springs, California in 2005.
