Jack McCartney is a listed California painter and sculptor, Born in San Francisco, California in 1893.

First taught by his artist father, Henry C McCartney, he studied further with Edgar Payne and Sam Hyde Harris. After a careefr in the woodworking fabrication business, he retiresd to Laguna Beach, California in 1957 and was active in the artist community and scene there up until the time his death.

HE often painted harbor scenes of San Pedro, and that may be the inspiration for this work. He died in 1976.
