This painting is thought to have been created in Rome, Italy in 1957 when Michael Redgrave was there for the filming of The Quiet American, a movie that began production in Saigon, but was moved to Rome after technical difficulties arose in Vietnam.

Michael Redgrave was the scion of one of the greatest families in English theater, stage, screen, and television. The archive of Sir Michael belongs to the Theater Museum of Convent Garden in London, England, where a major exhibition was mounted in 2003.
