A well-listed American painter, Henry McCarter was born in Norristown,
Pennsylvania in 1866, and studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts
with Thomas Eakins.
He also studied in Paris with Henri de Toulouse-Latrec and others. He
worked as an instructor at the Pennsylvania Academy from 1902 until 1942,
and won many medals for his works including at the Panama-Pacific
Exposition, the Saint Louis Exposition, the Philadelphia Watercolor Club,
and the Corcoran Gallery biennials. He died in 1942.
