Born in 1880, Hans Hofmann was one of the most
influential figures in American Abstract Expressionism.
As a teacher and an independent painter he inspired a
generation of artists who became household names in the mid-Twentieth
Century. He exhibited widely and his works are in many museum collections.
His first solo exhibit in New York City, New York, was at Peggy Guggenheim's
gallery, "Art Of This Century", in 1944.
He died in 1966.
