Born in 1925, Gustavo Foppiani has been called the most important artist in the "Piacenza School" of Italian art.

His work was widely exhibited during his lifetime in Italy, Europe and the United States. His decidedly modernistic works have been categorized as "crepuscular lyricism", and are almost always figural in subject matter, but also expressive of a calculated naïveté. His works have been sold at auction for as much as $8000.00, and are not easily found on the market. He died in 1986.
