The original of this painting of Fernand Corot is in the collection of the Louvre in Paris, France. Edgar-Henri Boutry, a listed painter and sculptor, executed this work and gave it to the Corot family.

There is a notation verso that says "Given by Mr. M. David, Mrs. David's son, Corot's grand-niece in 1952. My friend Edgar Boutry, sculptor, prize of Rome, made this water-colour after the portrait of Corot by himself that I gave to Moreau-Melutay who donated it to the Museum of the Louvre."

Boutry studied at the Ecoles Academioques Lilloises and at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He also won the prestigious "Prix de Rome" in 1887.

His public sculptures are located in Lille, and other parts of Northern France.

He was born in 1857, and died in 1938.
