Doel Reed is a well-listed member of the Taos art community known for his landscape paintings as well as acquaintances.

Born in Indiana in 1895, he chaired the Art Department at Oklahoma State University between 1924 - 1959. He then moved to New Mexico where he and his family vacationed for many years.

In 1952 he was elected to the National Academy of Design. His works have been exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Corcoran Gallery, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Metropolitan Museum, and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City, New York. He died in 1985.
