Clyde Forsythe was born in 1885. This painting was found in the house of Frank Tenney Johnson (1874 - 1939), after his sudden death, by the current owner of the house several yeas ago.

Forsythe and Johnson were well-known painting partners for many years, and shared a studio in Alhambra, California. Together they founded the Biltmore Gallery in the landmark Los Angeles hotel of the same name. Both painters were legendary artists of the American Western terrain.
