Born in 1871, Birger Sandzen is one of the preeminent painters and
printmakers of the late 19th, early 20th Century.
Born in Sweden and trained in Paris, France, he had a long and
distinguished career as an Art professor at Bethany College in Lindsborg,
Kansas. His style of painting was unique, and during the Great Depression he
served as a WPA artist. He died in 1954.
